Recess is not for the Status Quo

Over the years I have come across my fair share of opponents to Recess At Work Day. They’ve called it:

  • childish
  • unnecessary
  • more harm than good
  • not productive
  • not a fit for their corporate image
  • blah blah blah


Well then why is it that companies like McDonald’s or Covidien contacted me about bringing or being part of a Recess at their headquarters? Why is it that CBS Sunday Morning took the time to learn about it and the importance of Play. Why is it that Hartford Hospital has participated since year one; that Community Options puts it on the calendar every year; and that WorkSafeBC made it an event visible to the community?

Is it because they see how it can be used as a means to keep employees engaged, happy loyal and productive? Is it because they understand that their workforce need time to rejuvenate and unwind?

Or is because they don’t believe in the Status Quo…..which is also why they are leaders in their industries?
